Jane Jenkins is the founder of A
Vibrant Voice, a professional vocal instruction studio where she
teaches jazz, jazz scat, pop, rock, classical, and musical theatre. A
versatile teacher and dynamic individual with her own performance
background, she revels in teaching students of all ages, levels, and
vocal registers. She attended the University of Texas and San Antonio
College where she studied piano and voice. In the 1990's she was
introduced to the Speech Level Singing™ (SLS) method. An immediate
enthusiast, she became a Certified Instructor. SLS now plays a key role
in her own teaching methodology.
Jenkins coached two contestants who
were selected as Hollywood Finalists for the popular TV show, American
Idol. She has taught teenage students at Denver's Academy of Rock
Programs; she has worked with students and technicians in the recording
studio to ensure that the voice component is properly integrated on CD
recordings; and she has coached public speakers, sportscasters,
auctioneers, and square dance callers to improve their voice quality.
Jenkins' career spans over 25 years
with influences ranging from Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn to Dianne
Reeves. Performance venues include Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Texas,
Denver, and Europe. Born into a singing family, she initially followed
in the footsteps of her mother who was a jazz/blues singer with her own
radio show and recordings. Growing up in Las Vegas and San Antonio, she
quickly broadened her musical repertoire singing soprano for The
Mastersingers Choir, chorus for San Antonio Opera Productions, and
musicals for the San Antonio Little Theatre. After moving to Colorado,
she added a more contemporary pop and rock flair to her jazz roots. She
was the vocalist for the Paul Cotugno Jazz Trio at The Wok in Boulder
and performed with the great jazz artist Billy Tolles. She was the
singer of standards at the Red Rocks Summer Jazz Festival and opened
there for Harry Connick, Jr. Her recorded works include Schubert's Mass
in G and Jazz at the Wok. Her vocal versatility is still enjoyed by
audiences in clubs, conventions, and private parties.
Jenkins strongly endorses the Vocal
Ease Method and the use of her techniques, because they are
goal-oriented, solution-based, practical and individualized to create
immediate positive results for all singers.
Jenkins has a passion to provide
energetic and creative voice instruction to students of all ages and
all levels. Though some of her students have excelled professionally,
she also takes great pride in helping the recreational vocalist sing at
a wedding, in a school choir, community theater, or simply Christmas
carols with the family.
